Men ages 20 to 39 consume about 175 calories from alcohol daily, while women in the same age group consume about 60 calories from alcohol each day. That’s what a report published today by the National Center for Health Statistics revealed. Here are some other interesting statistics:

  • Twenty percent of men and 6 percent of women consume over 300 calories from alcohol on a daily basis
  • There are 150 calories in one glass of beer, 120 calories in one glass of wine, and 100 calories in one and a half  ounces of liquor
  • A third of men and 18 percent of women consume alcohol daily
  • Adults who consume alcohol get approximately 16 percent of their total calories each day from alcohol. That’s equivalent to the extra calories a child consumes in added sugar
  • Men get their calories from beer, while women consume beer, wine and liquor

Government dietary guidelines recommend two drinks daily for men and one for women.
